The Integra Medical Center
The Integra Medical Center, Nuevo Progreso, Mexico
This clinic was established in 1991 and is run by Dr. Omar Gonzalez, who is a graduate (1983) qualified in Acupuncture. Gonzalez has been conducting placental stem cell transplants since 1991 and has attended courses in Geriatrics, Obesity, and Nutrition at Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). It is unclear whether he has any clinical training working with stem cells. The clinic’s website claims that “Placenta therapy is effective, simple, long lasting, non-toxic and risk free [sic].” However, any surgery has a risk of infection and complication, which perhaps highlights concerns over the professionalism of these clinics.
The Integra Medical Center also offers therapies involving the injection of pharmaceutical doses of B vitamins at acupuncture points. It is unclear whether this involves the use of the controversial B17 vitamin Laetrile, which has the potential to be both toxic and useful for cancer treatment. A lack of quality research and clinical trials on Laetrile make therapeutic use of this pharmacological agent very concerning, especially by those who are not qualified and experienced medical professionals.
The center offers treatments for degenerative diseases using combinations of stem cell therapy alongside acupuncture and other complementary treatment modalities. Gonzalez’s approach to treatment is wide-ranging, and claims to induce minimal, or no, side-effects. Anti-aging treatments are, again, offered alongside treatment of diseases otherwise considered incurable. Arthritis, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s Disease are some of the conditions listed on the clinic’s website as able to be treated. Other conditions appear to be added to this list regularly.
