Regenecell
Regenecell, Zona Rio, Mexico
Regenecell have stem cell clinics in Mumbai, Bangkok, and now Mexico offering treatments using umbilical cord cells for a diverse range of conditions. In recent years there have been rumours of an affiliation between Cellulogix Intl., with concerns over the involvement of Casey Nabavi, who earlier this year lost a lawsuit brought against him by his former company StemCellBiotherapy for unlawfully practicing medicine, embezzlement, and other charges (Bloomberg, 2010).
We should stress that Regenecell do not claim an affiliation with Nabavi, nor does Nabavi claim an affiliation with them. There are, however, reports on the Cellulogix Intl. website of patients travelling to Zona Rio, perhaps purely coincidentally the location of Regenecell, for treatment at an undisclosed clinic. Conditions treated at Regenecell include, but are not limited to:
• Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
• Alzheimer’s Disease
• Autism
• Brain Damage
• Cancer
• Cardiac Disease
• Cerebellar Ataxia
• Cerebral Palsy
• COPD
• Crohn’s Disease
• Diabetes
• Eye Diseases
• Lupus
• Macular Degeneration
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Scleroderma
• Spinal Cord Injuries
• Stroke
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease
• Transverse Myelitis
They also offer treatment for ‘Anti-Aging’, as do most Mexican stem cell treatment facilities, seemingly. The generality of this therapeutic application of stem cells makes any assessment of its efficacy almost impossible, and patients should be wary of such uses of stem cells.
The Regenecell clinic tests the cord blood and provides a certificate of analysis for patients’ peace of mind, demonstrating that the umbilical cord blood was free from HIV, Hepatitis B, and ‘bacteria’, amongst other potential contaminants. The main physician at the Mexico clinic is Dr. Melba Romero, and treatment is offered as an outpatient procedure in some cases, with patients then transferred back to their resort hotel and allowed to return home the following day. This lack of follow-up care is alarming, as infections can occur with any such procedure, along with other adverse events. The clinic’s proximity to the US border, at the International Bio Care Hospital in Zona Rio, makes it appealing for those wanting such a concise treatment experience, but patients should discuss their treatment with their own physician at home in order to ensure adequate after-care.
